Another monochromatic image from several weeks ago while walking downtown. Have I mentioned that I have a thing about reflections?

Rain in Amber

Okay, first it must be said: I LOVE this picture!

I've gotten in the habit of carrying my camera around with me, even to work, and as I was leaving last night I stepped out the back door of the building and saw the picnic table just outside in the alley where the many smokers take their breaks. It had started gently raining shortly before, and as soon as I saw the table I was struck by how the light was reflected in the raindrops. Without moving a step I dug my camera out of my bag, rested my arm on the dumpster next to me, and managed to take a great shot of the rain and the light on the picnic table using only ambient light. The first one was a little blurry, but luckily the second one turned out amazingly well! Yay for great cameras!

Gothic Window

Another Old Main photo from several years ago. I love the Gothic look the building has; the middle classroom on every floor has one of these great arched windows. The day of my photographic expedition there was fantastic light coming in and reflecting off of the desk tables.

Depth

I LOVE this picture! My camera is really good at reflections, apparently, because they always turn out amazingly well. What I like about this particular reflection is that you can't tell right away which view, the tree or the sidewalk, is real and which is the reflection.

I went for a walk last weekend on the first day it snowed, because the weather was perfect. And by perfect I mean cold, wet, snowy, grey, and otherwise perfect. I love the beginning of winter, when it's still new and different and the first snowfall turns the familiar ground into an alien landscape.

Veni, Vidi, Vici

On to Italy! This one was (clearly) taken in Venice from a vaporetto. I was only in Venice for about 26 hours, which was long enough to see all the main attractions but not enough to really get a feel for the soul of the city, which I do regret. I'd like to go back someday and stay long enough to really walk the streets (such as there are) and just wander. That's the best way to explore a city. Some of my best memories are from places we stumbled upon while lost.
